Because of the many interdependencies between services, protocols, and configuration settings, troubleshooting network problems can be difficult. Fortunately, Windows Server 2008 includes a powerful network diagnostics tool for pinpointing problems that relate to the following:
To diagnose internet connection problems, follow these steps:
Windows network diagnostics will then try to identify the problem. If identifiable configuration problems exist, a list of possible solutions is provided. Some solutions provide automated fixes that you can execute by clicking the solution. Other solutions require manual fixes, such as might be required if you need to reset a network router or broadband modem. If your actions don't fix the problem, refer to other appropriate parts of this troubleshooting section.
ADSL/Broadband
If you are a home user and you are using Broadband Connection check the following things.
1. Check your phoneline is working perfectly. If there is noice or any other interruption then the data will not flow correctly.
2. If you phone is working then check the modem, it's power is on and the powe indicator is display status.
3. After the power on the ADSL Modem a few seconds the ADSL LED is going to blink and later it is steady and the Internet indicator is started blinking.
4. If the ADSL blinking is not steady then it should be the problem of telephone line or from Servicr Provider. You must contact the service provider to solve this issue.
5. If Both ADSL is steady and internet/data led is blinking but not shows webpage then you check the LAN LED is blinking or not. If you are using a wireless lan then check the status of wireless led. (You can enable or desable wireless in your modem reading the manufacturers user manual. If you using wireless you should enable passwords and encryption to prevent unauthorised users accessing your network.
6. If the LAN LED is not blinking then you should check the cable connected to the computer and NIC card is working correctly.
7. If all things are fine and If you have a prepaid internet account then you should check the validity and balance.
8. If you have using ADSL splitter then check the cables plugged in the correct port or not.

You can directly plug the telephone line into the ADSL modem for checking the splitter is faulty
If you are using a dialup connection then check the username and password.
If you are using automatic mode then create a dialup using following steps.
OR
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Tools menu Internet Options. (If toolbar is not visible then press Alt+T keys simultaniously)
3. Click Connections Tab in the top of the dialog Box.
4. Look for "To setup an Internet Connection click Setup" and a button with Setup is shown top, click on the button to start the wizard.
5. Click Next Button.
6. Select Connect to the Internet and Click the Next button.
7. Select Set up my connection manually and Click the Next button.
8. If you are using a dialup Select Connect using a dial-up modem go to 11 otherwise Select Connect using a broadband connection that require a username and password and click next.
9. Enter the Connection name whatever you want, Click Next.
10. Enter Username and Password Click Next and Click Fininsh to complete Seting up a dialup connection.
11. In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (eg. BsnlNet).
Click the Next button.
In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.
Note: If you require 10-digit dialing in order to access a local number, make sure to include your area code.
Click the Next button.
In the User name field, type your email address.
In the Password field, type your password.
In the Confirm password field, type your password.
Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.
Uncheck the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.
Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection.
Click the Next button.
Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.
Click the Finish button.
Wireless/EVDO/Datacard
1. Check the range indicator for the correct connectivity. You need at least 40% range for good reception.
2. If you have good range then check the validity of your connection. If prepaid check the balance.
3. You have enough balance and you are in the validity peroid.
4. Remove the datacard and uninstall the software completly and restart the computer.
5. Reinsert the datacard and istall the software correctly and try again.
