The dancers wear large <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Poothan Thira3\" src=\"images\/kerala\/arts\/Poothan and Thira\/Poothan_thira1.jpg\" style=\"width: 243px; height: 283px; border-width: 3px; border-style: solid; float: left; margin: 4px;\" caption=\"false\" width=\"243\" height=\"283\" \/>fan-shaped head-dresses and imposing masks, often with sticking-out tongues and bulging eyes. The dancer playing Poothan usually wears a bright coloured tightly woven costume, often including bright red elements and embellished with gold-coloured trinkets that rattle when the dancer moves.
