Well, today is your lucky day because we will demonstrate one way of speeding up your internet connection through a simple registry tweak.

If you have either a broadband cable modem or DSL connection, this process should work for you. This procedure will also work in the case that you utilize a router, switch, network hub or access point. After performing the steps below you it may speed up the way your computer accesses the internet through your connection instead of actually changing anything on the side of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Steps to optimize or speed up DSL and cable modem connections

1. Go to the Start menu and select Run.
2. Type in Regedit and click OK.

3.The registry editor should be open now. Navigate to the following path using the folders on the left panel of the registry editor program: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

4. Create the following DWORD values if they are not present by right clicking on an empty space on the right side panel of the registry editor. Select New > DWORD value.
DWORD values to create:
- DefaultTTL
- EnablePMTUBHDetect
- EnablePMTUDiscovery
- TcpWindowSize

5. After each DWORD value above is created you must set the Value data of each (by double clicking on each new DWORD value that you created) as follows:
DefaultTTL – Value data= 80 Hexadecimal
EnablePMTUBHDetect – Value data= 0 Hexadecimal
EnablePMTUDiscovery – Value data= 1 Hexadecimal
TcpWindowSize – Value data= faf0 Hexadecimal

6. After each new DWORD value is created and each Value data field is completed you may close the registry editor program and restart your computer.
