Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld
DVB-H is a standard specified by the DVB Organization specifically for the broascasting of TV-like content and data to handheld devices, such as mobile phones.
DVB-H is based closely on DVB-T, the standard for broadcast digital TV in most of Europe.
The separate DVB-H standard is necessary to address the unique requirements of mobile devices in terms of power consumption, screen-size and mobility.
DVB-H is a broadcast technology, meaning one signal is sent out from the base station (tower), and all devices in range can recieve that same signal and data. This contrasts with mobile phone networks, where each device has a dedicated connection with the base station.
